Magpie Dance celebrates after receiving £180,000 in National Lottery funding

Posted on: 10/02/2023

Magpie Dance based in Bromley, are celebrating after being awarded £180,000 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.

Magpie Dance will use their funding to support their programme of 17 weekly dance classes for people with learning disabilities, along with a busy programme of workshops, performances, Easter and Summer Schools, and projects with local communities.

This new National Lottery funding will start in January 2023 and run for three years. During that time over 1,000 people every year will benefit reaching people right across London and the South East.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.

Laura Graham, Magpie Dance's Executive Director said: “Thanks to the National Lottery players, this grant means that we can continue to deliver our programme; enabling children and adults with learning disabilities to reach their full personal, social and artistic potential through dance.  The National Lottery funding will go directly towards our weekly and holiday sessions and regular performances (and trips), where participants of all ages gain life, social and communication skills as well as added health and wellbeing benefits – this will make a big difference to people’s lives”

During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
