Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Magpie Dance were part of the Protein 21 Reimagine project. Over lockdown, Magpie Dance transferred the work online to produce the film ‘From Me’ based on Luca Silvestrini’s Protein piece ‘Dear Body’. Magpie dancers began the process by writing a letter to their body. These letters were then used to create the movement and soundscore for 'From Me'

Disability Arts Festival, Harrow Arts Centre

Date: Fri 19 Nov 2021

If you had to write a letter to your body, what would you say? Seven Magpie dancers (aged 18 – 30), all of whom have learning disabilities, collaborate to produce their first film. Each of the dancers were asked to write to their body, exploring how they perceived themselves, others and the world around them during the Covid-19 pandemic. Drawing upon their feelings and experiences, they choreographed sequences to portray their stories. Working closely with the facilitators, each student took on a different production/editing role, and joined forces with a professional musician to devise, compose and record the music. For one student this included playing the French horn live! To find out more about the project and how the film was made via Zoom during lockdown, watch 'The Making of… From Me': https://youtu.be/BzLAWL200dw
